Yesterday I finished swapping out the emitter in my old S2+ with a CUN66A1G (the original XM-L2 was getting a bit boring). The driver is a 3/5 mode 4×7315, originally 6x but I removed two regulators since I heard UV emitters are fairly fragile when it comes to current. I was originally worried about temperatures (I’ve heard most UV emitters are pretty inefficient), but it ended up being alright… it can sustain 40% with just a little bit of warmth, and 100% gets pretty warm indoors but feels much better outside at night in cold weather. Aside from ordering the wrong size gasket, I’m very happy with how it turned out.
Just for fun, I decided to do some beamshots with my full-spectrum (no IR/UV blocking filter) Sony A5000 with a ZWB2 + TSN575 on the camera (the TSN575 is used to block the IR that the ZWB2 passes). The water tank in the center of the 4th picture is about 80m away, but that’s a 13sec exposure so the range is a bit misleading lol. Also thought it would be interesting to get a picture showing how much UV my glasses block. Honestly this light is almost unusable without my glasses on, since I think my eyes are super sensitive to deep violet (maybe a tiny bit of UV too?) and without my glasses on there’s enough deep violet/UV visible to me that it can actually mask weak fluorescence.
