100 lm @ 45m distance throw for 9 h
500 lm @ 100m distance throw for 2.5 h

check out these two headlamps… why are the runtimes a lot better than the skilhunt h04 rc mini and h200 mini. the battery sizes are about the same for the core iko. What am I missing?

You’re missing the ANSI-NEMA FL1 2009 / [ANSI-PLATO FL1](https://www.streamlight.com/docs/default-source/ansi-documents/ansi-pres.pdf?sfvrsn=2) runtime standard… It’s misleading as hell.
In a nutshell, that Petzl will NOT do 500 lumens for 2.5 hours straight without dimming… In other words, at 2.40 hours, you are NOT going to be getting 500 lumens from that Petzl. You are NOT getting 500 lumens from it at 2.00 hours. You are NOT getting 500 lumens from it at 1.50 hours.
The [ANSI-NEMA Runtime definition](https://www.led-resource.com/ansi-fl1-standard/) states that so long as it takes a light to run down to 10% of its initial maximum output, you can count that as its runtime. So if the Petzl started off at 0.00 seconds at 500 lumens, once it drops to 50 lumens, 10% of its initial maximum output, this amount of time is its “runtime” per this standard.
What Petzl doesn’t tell you, and why this runtime is misleading, is that the light could drop from 500 lumens to 100 lumens after 60 seconds, and stay at 100 lumens for 2.49 hours, then drop to 50 lumens at 2.50 hours, and Petzel can actually tell you that the runtime is 2.50 hours at 500 lumens to wiggle into this ANSI-NEMA definition of runtime.
Some brands are starting to change. Like Acebeam and Fenix, for example, will give you runtime charts where they will tell you when a light steps down from different lumens output levels. Others will put an “*” next to their runtime to denote that you’re not getting that full XXXX amount of lumens for that full XXXX length of runtime.
But for the most part, you should look at these long runtimes at high amounts of lumens knowing that it may not be telling you the whole story.
Petzl are being economical with the facts shall we call it.
