The dude burnt your edge. Mostly means it won’t hold a sharp edge well until that part gets properly sharpened away. Honestly, buy some basic knife sharpening equipment and learn yourself. Practice on some cheap beater knives first. Knowing how to put your own edges on your blades will save you money in the long run and keep you from bad experiences in the future.
