I bought a Cold Steel 4 Max Scout when I ordered the Mayhem. Compared to the Mayhem, this looks like a tiny knife. Although I have a ton of Cold Steel knives, I didn't have any of their Lite versions of more expensive models. The 4 Max Scout is my first cheaper variant, even though its MSRP is still above $100.
After a week and a half with it, this thing is definitely going to be a regular in my big knife carry rotation. It might even be the new knife that lives in my glove box. Although, it violates one of the core principles of the glove box knife in that I'd be upset if it was stolen. That's why the Smith & Wesson Cleft will still be the king of the glove box. While not a beater knife in its purest form, the 4 Max Scout is a beater knife in its ultimate form. While being a very huge knife, it's a surprisingly practical knife that invites you to put it to use.
Cold Steel excels at large knife ergonomics. The Griv-Ex handle is so grippy while being super comfortable that it makes the knife seem smaller and more manageable in your hand. After handling it for a while, I no longer care that it's made of AUS-10 and plastic. This overbuilt beast is going to get a lot of pocket time.
