I always hand wash my knives but this one got put in the dishwasher by one of my kids and came out like this. My dishwasher does get ungodly hot but it can't be that hot. I'm wondering if there could be some electrical issue and there was some arcing or something that could have caused this but I saw no other signs on any other cutlery or dish or the racks having any damage.

That looks like Electrical arcing.
Ground fault in the dishwasher? Idk looks like electric damage
Did it bang against something with those shapes in the dish washer? Like…does the wire on the basket it was in match up with the width of those dings? If not, I wonder if your kid was cutting something with it and caused the damage before putting it in the dishwasher? Like they were working on a school project or something and chipped it.
The rust around the dents could easily just be because of the harsh detergent against steel that isn’t designed to resist it. I don’t think it looks like arcs from electricity, but admittedly I am not an expert.
Probably some shaking going on inside. I assume the blade was open and rubbing across the rack since it looks evenly spread out, followed by some rusting.
I’ve seen a pair of diagonal cutters that looked like this after cutting a live extension cable … the guy who made the cut was kind of funny looking after the fact too!
Think someone probed the toaster before putting it in the dishwasher lol
I just watched a video by OUTDOORS55 suggesting serrations should be on the tip end of a knife. Here is your chance to test it out. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGFktNfHX28](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGFktNfHX28)
there is no bluing of the metal, electricity burns the metal out, this is blunt force and that’s rust
I’d ask the kid that put it in the dish washer. They did something with it before they put it in there.
He gone
