Hi.
I got this machete as a gift from my father. I’m from Colombia and it’s from the “best” (and tbh, only 😅) metal and knife company here (incolma).
It’s a nice looking knife, but, I don’t know why they make this useless “saws” on the spine. They get in the way for grabbing the knife up close to shave wood and were also a problem when sharpening it.
I want to know if it’s good or bad to just grind them and try to get a flat spine. The knife is thick (close to 3mm) so, it would be great for batoning, but, this “spikes” would probably get in the way in that situation too.
My doubts come from the integrity of the knife if I remove so much material by removing the spikes. Will i destroy the knife? Will it be then to thin or small?
I know i have to be very careful with heat as to not destroy the HT, but, since there’s so much to remove, that’s also a worry, because of not having much experience on this.
I have an angle and a bench grinder. If you think it’s good to proceed with grinding, which tool would be better for this?
Or should I just take it as it is and do nothing?
Thanks you for any advice or suggestions.
Have a great day.
