I am running a "tournament" where every day I carry and directly compare two knives that I acquired in 2025. You can see the full list of contestants here.
Today we have the very first match up, between the Spyderco Shaman (S90V and Burlap Micarta Knife Center Exclusive version) and the Miguron Velona.
I will create these posts in the morning each day, and while some match ups may seem clear right away, I will wait to choose a winner until the end of the day, after actually carrying both knives. While I am interested to see discussion, the winner will ultimately be my choice, so the final ranking will be of my preferences.
The criteria for choosing a winner will essentially be the knife I enjoyed carrying more; it is not a strictly utilitarian comparison. That said, I'm just an office worker with fairly light knife usage needs most days. So, to make sure both knives get at least a little bit of comparable real-world use, I will use each knife to chop up some cardboard before making a final decision.
