Sometimes, making a difference starts with having the right wheels. And one proudly South African-built Ford Ranger is about to prove just how far a little help can go.
Most Ford Rangers leave the Silverton Assembly Plant in Pretoria with a job to do. Some will become trusted workhorses, others will head off on family adventures, and many will find their way to destinations across the world.
But one particular Ranger has a rather different journey ahead of it. And its job description is arguably one of the most rewarding yet.
Meet the Good Things Ranger
Born from a new partnership between Ford South Africa and Good Things Guy, this specially branded Ranger XLT Double Cab 4×4 is setting out on a mission to make a meaningful difference in communities across South Africa.

Its assignment? To lend a helping hand to 24 non-profit organisations and community initiatives, providing the mobility they need to get on with the incredible work they do.
And there’s a wonderful South African story behind it.
Good stories deserve to go further
For Brent Lindeque, founder of Good Things Guy, everything began with a R20 meal.
In 2014, when an online drinking challenge called Neknomination was sweeping social media, Brent decided to do something different. Instead of filming himself drinking, he bought a meal for a homeless man, shared the moment online and challenged others to pay the kindness forward.
The gesture went viral, inspiring countless acts of generosity. It also planted the seed for Good Things Guy, launched in 2015 to give uplifting South African stories the attention they deserve.
One encounter has stayed particularly close to the heart of that mission. When Brent handed a piece of cake to a woman named Lilly at a traffic light, she hugged him. He later returned to sit with her, share stories and eat cake together. A driver who had initially been impatient with him was moved to help Lilly too and continued supporting her afterwards.
As Brent later recalled, “The cake didn’t matter… I could see in her eyes that the acknowledgement was what she needed.”
It’s the kind of moment that explains why he keeps telling these stories. Because kindness isn’t always about what you give. Sometimes, it’s about seeing someone who feels invisible.
That same spirit runs through the Ranger People Do Good Things initiative. Ford and Good Things Guy are turning awareness into action, helping organisations reach people, transport supplies and bring practical support where it is needed most.
Built here. Doing good here.
There’s something particularly fitting about the Good Things Ranger’s story beginning at Ford’s Silverton Assembly Plant.
This is where Brent collected the keys to his new four-wheeled partner, straight from the production line where it was built.
The same facility produces Rangers destined for more than 100 markets around the world, but this one will be staying closer to home, putting its South African roots to particularly good use.
As a Ranger XLT Double Cab 4×4, it’s well equipped for the task. With the versatility to carry people and equipment, the practicality of a load bin and the ability to venture beyond the tar, it’s a vehicle designed to help get things done.
For Ford, the partnership also brings its commitment to being a South African champion to life.
“We are taking a vehicle made in South Africa and using it to do good things for South Africa,” says Neale Hill of Ford Motor Company’s Africa Operations.
It’s a simple idea, but a powerful one.
The journey is just beginning
Over the coming months, the Good Things Ranger will make its way across the country, supporting 24 carefully selected organisations, each with its own challenges, ambitions and stories worth sharing.
And while the destinations and tasks will differ, the mission remains the same: help the people who are already doing good do even more.
Good Things Guy will document the journey, shining a light on the organisations, the people behind them and the difference practical support can make.
Their stories will also feature on Ford’s From The Road platform and ultimately come together in a special Good Things Guy book celebrating the journey.
So, if you happen to spot a rather distinctive Ranger out on South Africa’s roads, know that it’s probably on its way to do something good.
Because this isn’t just another bakkie heading off on an adventure.
It’s a Ranger with a purpose. And the good things are only getting started.
