SEMA builds usually swing between two extremes: wildly impractical trailer queens or catalogs on wheels thrown together at the eleventh hour. For the 2026 show in Las Vegas, Nissan managed to strike a much more interesting balance. Rather than rolling out generic trim packages, the automaker brought three custom builds based on the Frontier, Pathfinder, and Armada that tap directly into classic off-road hardware and heritage cues-along with a quiet teaser that a brand-new Xterra is on the horizon.
Here is a closer look at what Nissan hauled out to the Central Hall floor this week.
The Frontier RONIN: A Twin-Turbo Midsize Brawler
Midsize truck fans have spent years swapping full-size Titan suspension parts onto Frontiers to get a wider stance and better travel without going full custom tube chassis. Nissan clearly noticed.

The Frontier RONIN concept borrows hardware directly from the Titan parts bin to widen the truck’s track by 12 inches and bump ride height by more than four inches. That extra clearance makes room for 35-inch Yokohama Geolandar X-AT rubber wrapped around prototype 17-inch NISMO beadlock wheels.
The real party piece, though, is under the hood. Instead of leaving the factory naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 alone, Nissan bolted on a pair of turbochargers. The setup is backed by a custom big-brake package, NISMO rock sliders, auxiliary lighting, and a bed-mounted spare. Inside, it gets dedicated boost gauges, sport buckets, and subtle topo-map webbing on the belts. It looks like an honest attempt to build a high-speed desert runner out of standard production bones.
Pathfinder XE-V6 Concept: A 40-Year Throwback Done Right
The Pathfinder has evolved into a comfortable unibody family hauler over the decades, but Nissan used the nameplate’s 40th anniversary to look back at the original WD21 generation that debuted for 1987.
Dressed in red with black, charcoal, and silver striping-paying homage to vintage graphics from 1980s-era Patrols-the XE-V6 concept carries retro badging referencing the old 3.0-liter V6. Under the skin, this one runs the modern 284-hp 3.5-liter mill, but it sits on a four-inch suspension lift, 18-inch prototype NISMO wheels, and meaty Geolandar tires.
Nissan also fitted high-clearance custom bumpers and a proper rear swing-out carrier holding a full-size spare. While nobody expects the production Pathfinder to ditch its daily-driver demeanor anytime soon, the concept proves the crossover platform can take on an old-school overlanding stance without looking out of place.
Armada Jungle Patrol: Safari-Spec Full-Size
To showcase its flagship SUV, Nissan took the Armada down an open-air safari route. The Jungle Patrol concept drops the standard roofline in favor of a full tubular roll cage and inward-facing rear jump seats, echoing vintage field trucks and global-market Patrols.
Hardware upgrades include long-travel suspension links, custom steel bumpers, aggressive fender flares, and massive 37-inch Yokohama tires. Finished with heavy-duty NISMO auxiliary lights, the build strips away the luxury pretense of the standard Armada and turns it into a purpose-built trail rig.
Between the retro graphics and the long-travel hardware, Nissan’s 2026 SEMA lineup delivers practical inspiration for garage builders while hinting at what the company’s off-road design team is cooking up next.
