The G65 iteration of the BMW X5 mid-size luxury crossover SUV was introduced for the 2027 model year for all the main markets (Europe, North America, China) with a few premieres, but that’s seemingly not enough for some folks, including the members of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators dwelling across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI.
Succeeding the G05 iteration launched in production in 2018, the fifth iteration is almost completely different from its predecessors except for the continued use of the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform. But it now comes with an enhanced version that allows the use of no fewer than five powertrain options: gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, as well as battery or fuel cell electric versions.
Aside from that, it’s completely new, featuring the Neue Klasse styling inside and outside. One thing that stays the same is the production location in the United States at BMW Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina. Currently, BMW only offers the 2027 X5 40 xDrive in the United States, kicking off at $72,100 sans destination, sporting the company’s 3.0-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder with xDrive all-wheel drive, rocking 394 hp and a 28 MPG rating plus a sprint to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
More versions are set to follow, including the pure V8-powered BMW X5 M60 xDrive that represents the North American counterpart of the European X5 M60e xDrive high-performance PHEV, but with an enhanced version of BMW’s S68 twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 churning out in excess of 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.
Production will start next spring in America, according to the rumor mill, and the V8 model could arrive at US dealerships as a late 2027 model year or even as a 2028MY with an estimated starting MSRP of around $95k. That’s cool, right? But what if the BMW X5 M60 xDrive also arrived with a new body style, too?
Well, that’s probably not going to happen in the real world, but only across Imagination Land thanks to Jim, a virtual artist known as “jlord8” on social media who loves messing around with all things CGI from the automotive realm, and now he dreams of a wacky BMW.
More precisely, his latest unofficial, hypothetical design project doesn’t focus on a new Mazda or any of the American brands. Instead, he envisions the possibility of a BMW TX5 M60 luxury Single Cab sport truck for our consideration, aiming for something different across the full-size truck segment. Of course, he had to have a starting point, and the Ford F-150 served as the initial template before applying the G65’s Neue Klasse design, especially at the front.
So, what do you think – yay or nay? Would you buy something like this?
