Ford’s recall of 2,276 F-150 pickup trucks stems from an assembly line error and incomplete repair procedures at the manufacturing plant.
According to documents provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue was traced back to a specific assembly workstation where an operator was unable to properly secure the front seat-to-body bolts within the allotted workstation cycle time. Although the incomplete vehicles triggered an automated line stoppage and were flagged for repair, a team leader logged the fixes as complete anyway in the tracking system, even though the seat bolts were actually loose or missing entirely.

Subsequent investigation throughout July and August analyzed electric tool data from the assembly line, repair logs, and field reports. Ford identified 56 warranty claims and 16 field reports related to improperly secured seats across 62 unique vehicle identification numbers (VINs) from March 5, 2025, to July 6, 2026.
On September 29, 2026, Ford’s Field Review Committee officially approved the safety recall after determining that multiple vehicles had been released into consumer hands without receiving the required seat bolt repairs.
Ford confirmed it is not aware of any crashes or injuries linked to the defect.

Inspection and Dealer Fix
To remedy the safety risk, Ford dealers will inspect the front seat-to-body mounting bolts on all affected 2025–2027 F-150 models. Technicians will torque loose bolts to factory specification or install missing hardware free of charge to owners.
Notices to affected vehicle owners will be sent under Ford recall reference code 26S74. Owner notification letters are expected to begin mailing on October 26, 2026, while VIN lookups on the NHTSA recall website became active earlier this month.
