Sitting proudly in the inventory of Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Garage Kept Motors, this high-riding 1983 Chevrolet C/K 20 Series is actively screaming “look at me, ma” from a tall place.

Before anyone thought about the Silverado and Sierra, there was the Chevrolet and GMC C/K series of trucks produced by General Motors between 1959 and 2002 in the United States and a little while longer in other places, like Mexico (2006).

Sold by both the Chevrolet and GMC divisions, the C/K series was the direct enemy of the Ford F-Series just as it was rising to stardom, and became increasingly popular over the years thanks to its encompassing and wide range of models. Used for the model branding directly from the internal model codes, the ‘C’ letter was attributed to models with two-wheel drive, while ‘K’ stood for 4WD.

Over the years, there have been four generations of Chevrolet models and three for GMC, as the latter adopted the Sierra moniker one iteration earlier, and both GM and the fans came up with nicknames, like the official Action Line and Rounded Line for the second and third generation or the Square Body plus OBS designations by enthusiasts.

As such, this big red truck which “checks all the boxes (‘¾ Ton, Red, V8, Lifted, Room for Two In The Back’) for a lifted classic Chevy and looks ready to hit the dirt” is a Square Body, a 1983 Chevrolet K20 of the classic 4×4 variety “that combines rugged styling with a selection of performance upgrades.” It’s finished in the most classic ways: crimson over a black interior and “has been built with an emphasis on V8 performance while retaining the practical character and proportions that make the square-body Chevrolet trucks so desirable.”

Under its towering hood resides a 5.7-liter V8 “equipped with angled-plug heads, an Edelbrock intake manifold, Holley carburetor, and Hedman headers,” giving a performance-focused style due to the combination of upgraded induction and exhaust components, while the engine in itself “retains the straightforward mechanical character associated with this generation of Chevrolet trucks.”

Power is routed through a 700R4 automatic transmission, including overdrive, and a 4.10 limited-slip rear end complements the setup to suit the “truck’s lifted, off-road-oriented stance.” The chassis and suspension setup are highlighted by the massive lift and combine with large off-road tires and polished aluminum wheels visible from across the parking lot at any angle, for sure.

What’s very important is that the dealership isn’t asking a ton of money for this truck: it has 114 miles on the odometer, most likely since the build was finished, and it’s offered at $36,900. That’s not even enough to buy a 2026 Silverado 1500 base truck, let alone the upcoming all-new generation coming for the 2027 model year with even higher MSRPs.
