Hundreds of thousands of pounds of healthy foods will be making its way through the city on Wednesday as a caravan will bring, what organizers said was, a record-setting amount of donations to Philabundance as part of the 17th annual Toyota Tundra Food Drive.
In a statement, organizers said this year the Tri-State Toyota Dealers have collected a record-making amount of over 354,000 of food for Philabundance.
Organizers said the amount is enough to provide about 295,000 healthy meals for those in need.
“To think of someone trying to decide whether to heat their house or feed their children, is heartbreaking to me,” Paul Muller, f the Tri-State Toyota Dealers Association, said.
Over the past 16 years of food drives, they’ve collected over four million pounds of food in all.
On Wednesday, organizers said, more than 80 Toyota Tundras will be loaded up with pallets of healthy food before they transport the donations through Philadelphia, eventually arriving at Citizens Bank Park where the donations will be loaded up in trucks for delivery to Philabundance.
The convoy of vehicles kicked off around 9:45 a.m. at a warehouse located along the 300 block of West Berks Street in North Philadelphia before continuing south through Center City Philadelphia until the trucks reach Citizens Bank Park.
