The Ford F-Series is America’s best-selling truck series for almost half a century, and the Blue Oval hopes the updates and upgrades to the F-150 will help it achieve the 50-year milestone at the end of 2026.

So, the Ford F-Series has appeared since the 1948 model year as a range of full-size pickup trucks and so far has been produced across fourteen generations – the entire series became the best-selling pickup truck line in the United States since 1977 and also the most popular nameplate, overall, since 1981. Now, the current fourteenth generation has been around since the 2021 model year, complete with a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year.

Clearly, the fifteenth iteration of the Ford F-Series is still a few years away from the market, which makes it less than surprising that the Blue Oval company is giving the 2027MY a few major updates. Ford is upgrading the entire 2027 F-150 truck lineup after previously they also revealed the updates for the larger Super Duty models. On the menu are “exterior refinements for an enhanced, tougher look,” the new BlueCruise hands-free highway system with towing technology, an upgraded powertrain offer, cheaper off-road models, as well as a brand-new F-150 Carhartt version.

Now, let’s dive deeper into the details. For the 2027 model year, the Ford F-150 XLT, Lariat, and King Ranch, plus the Platinum version have redesigned, distinctive grilles and updated wheel styles. Ford says the “update was guided by customer feedback who wanted a modern spin on a familiar face while still having a reliable partner for towing and work.”

A major novelty for the 2027MY is not that more than 75% of current Ford F-150 customers use their full-size truck for towing – but rather that the Blue Oval has found a way to make their life easier going forward. So, the 2027 Ford F-150 introduces the new BlueCruise with Towing system, a driver-assist feature that allows customers to drive hands-free on more than 130,000 miles of pre-qualified divided highways called Blue Zones, even when towing their boat, trailer, or camper – all they need to do from now on is keep their eyes on the road.

All trims will have access to the new BlueCruise with Towing, including customers with an active BlueCruise subscription on the vehicle. Secondly, the 2027 Ford F-150 comes with a new base 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 making the same 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque as the outgoing 2.7-liter, but the larger unit reaches peak pulling power and provides “roughly 10%-11% more torque where daily driving occurs.”

Also, the 5.0-liter V8 engine is again made available on the King Ranch and Platinum for the first time since 2023, while the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and PowerBoost Hybrid V6s remain the same. From now on, the Tremor and Raptor models will be cheaper, with the former based on the STX and with fewer elements than before to achieve a lower base MSRP. There’s also an entry-level Raptor which ditches the head-up display, fog lamps, 2kW Pro Power Onboard capability, Mobile Office package, power passenger seat, and under-seat storage, with a manual/tilt column and an eight-speaker B&O audio system.

New for 2027 is also the first-ever Ford F-150 Carhartt, as it expands availability beyond the Super Duty versions, offered on the 4×4 XLT Crew Cab models. It features “Carhartt-inspired design, work-ready bed protection, and durable interior details,” plus bespoke 20-inch wheels and unique fender vents and badging finished with the iconic Carhartt logo, as well as a modified grille, dual exhaust, and off-road running boards. Inside, there are dual-tone Carhartt seat covers, updated door trim panels, center console lid, and steering wheel, all-weather floor mats, and more.

The 2027 Ford F-150 Carhartt starts at an MSRP of $62,660 plus destination, with the Carhartt Package available for $4,195. Since we’re done with the overview, now let’s talk about the competition. The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado is all-new but hasn’t reached the US dealerships just yet, so if the Blue Oval hurries, it will have some time before the eternal runner-up comes into play with the redesigned generation. For now, the 2026 Silverado 1500 kicks off at a smidge below $40k with destination.

The obvious alternative would be the GMC Sierra, which is also coming as a brand-new model for the 2027 model year. Until then, the current 2026MY kicks off at $41,095 with destination. The other American option is, of course, the 2027 Ram 1500, which is the most expensive of the bunch starting from $42,575 – this time around sans the massive $2,795 destination charge. One final option is the Toyota Tundra, which has not been updated to the 2027MY in terms of pricing – it kicks off at $41,260, excluding destination.

So, what do you think? Does the 2027 Ford F-150 and the new F-150 Carhartt have what it takes to continue leading the pickup truck market and help the Blue Oval celebrate 50 years of American domination in 2027?
