New Carhartt edition joins a fresh 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6 and BlueCruise with Towing for 2027

Ford is giving the F-150 a series of meaningful updates for 2027, including a new standard engine, expanded BlueCruise capability and fresh styling. But the truck likely to attract the most attention wears a familiar name from outside the automotive world: Carhartt.

The first Ford F-150 Carhartt brings the two Detroit-rooted brands together in a special package available on F-150 XLT 4×4 Crew Cab models.

And it isn’t simply a collection of badges.

The exterior gets unique 20-inch wheels, Carhartt-branded fender vents and badging, lower rocker and tailgate graphics, Lobo headlamps and a Tremor hood. Ford also adds a modified grille, dual exhaust, Tremor running boards and a spray-in bedliner carrying Carhartt branding.

Inside, the workwear influence continues with themed seat covers, revised door trim panels, a unique centre console lid and steering wheel with contrasting accent stitching. Carhartt-branded all-weather floor mats finish the treatment.

The package will cost $5,995 in Canada, with the 2027 F-150 Carhartt starting at $82,285 before destination and delivery. Orders are open now, with availability expected in early 2027.

The collaboration is part of a multi-year strategic relationship between Ford and Carhartt, two companies with a combined history of more than 250 years in Detroit.

New 3.0-Litre EcoBoost Becomes Standard

Carhartt may grab the headlines, but there’s bigger news under the hood for most F-150 buyers.

For 2027, Ford is replacing the 2.7-litre EcoBoost V6 with a new 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6 as the F-150’s standard engine.

The new engine shares its core architecture with the outgoing 2.7-litre. Ford says peak capability remains the same, but the 3.0-litre delivers roughly 10 to 11 per cent more torque in the part of the rev range most commonly used during everyday driving.

The rest of the engine lineup remains familiar. Buyers can choose a 5.0-litre V8 producing 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.5-litre EcoBoost offers 500 lb-ft and maximum towing capacity of up to 13,500 pounds when properly equipped.

The 3.5-litre PowerBoost Hybrid produces 570 lb-ft of torque and continues to offer Pro Power Onboard with available 2.4-kW and 7.2-kW outputs.

BlueCruise Can Now Tow Hands-Free

There is another update that should get the attention of anyone who regularly hooks a trailer to their F-150.

Ford is expanding its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system to include towing.

BlueCruise with Towing will debut on the 2027 F-150, allowing drivers to use the hands-free driver-assistance system while pulling compatible boats, trailers or campers on nearly 210,000 kilometres of pre-qualified divided highways Ford calls Blue Zones.

And Ford isn’t reserving it for the most expensive F-150s.

Every BlueCruise-equipped 2027 F-150 will have access, including XLT, Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum models. An active BlueCruise subscription or trial is required, although Ford says existing subscribers won’t pay an additional fee specifically for the towing capability.

As with regular BlueCruise, this remains an eyes-on driver-assistance system. The driver must remain attentive and prepared to take control, and towing functionality is subject to trailer type, size and weight limitations.

A Familiar Face, Freshened

Ford hasn’t dramatically changed the F-150’s appearance for 2027, but several models get a fresh look.

XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trims receive redesigned grilles along with new wheel designs. Ford says the changes came in response to customers looking for a more modern interpretation of the F-150’s familiar face.

Ford hasn’t reinvented the F-150 for 2027, and it really didn’t need to. Instead, it has concentrated on the things truck buyers are likely to notice: more usable torque from the standard engine, hands-free driving while towing and some fresh styling.

And then there’s the Carhartt.

It may not make the F-150 any more capable, but with two iconic Detroit brands coming together, it certainly gives us something new to talk about.
