Ford F-150 Drops Base Engine, Shows Early Leaked Preliminary Guide

The 2027 Ford F-150 preliminary guide shows that America’s favorite pickup truck series drops the base engine for the 2027 model year. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost unit disappears from the lineup with the refresh to make room for the 3.0-liter EcoBoost.

A Ford order guide for 2027 leaked online, and it seems to prematurely give the answers to a lot of questions. The automaker is apparently ditching the 2.7-litr V6 engine that debuted with the 2015 model year, launching alongside the truck’s shift to an aluminum body.

The first generation of the engine featured direct fuel injection and produced 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque. The second generation added port fuel injection and bumped torque to 410 pound-feet while retaining the original output. The 2.7 is paired with Ford’s ten-speed automatic transmission.

Right now, the base Ford F-150 with the 2.7-liter V6 EcoBoost engine starts at $40,085. Those who want to go home with a truck powered by the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost will have to pay $2,220 more, while the truck with the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 is a $42,680 deal in base form.

The leaked order guide uploaded to f150gen14.com no longer shows the 2.7-litr V6, but includes the 3.0-liter V6, starting with the entry-level trim, the STX. The 2.7 does show up in the order guide, but in the “Deleted” section under “Major Product Changes,” which confirms the shift.

The 3.0-liter is the same that powers the Ranger Raptor. We have yet to see how much it will make under the hood of the F-150, but for the Raptor, it pumps out 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, which is more than what the outgoing 2.7 could do.

In the meantime, the 3.5-liter V6 and the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 keep their ground with no plan of change. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 produces 382 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, while the 5.0-liter Coyote is good for 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet in base form.

Ford is also planning changes to the equipment list of some trims such as the Tremor, which will no longer get power seats, dual-zone climate control, and the Bang & Olufsen audio system, but will retain the off-roader credentials.

Updated color options and packages are also part of the plan for the 2027 refresh. The STX will get an FX4 Off-Road Package as well as the F-150 Lobo Package, while the Lariat can be specced with the Lariat Chrome Appearance Package next year. Customers will be able to get the optional Platinum Satin Appearance Package for the Platinum Trim.

There is no official pricing just yet, but Ford is keeping that information for a date closer to the market launch. In the meantime, FoMoCo is working on the next-gen Ford, officially confirmed to arrive some time in 2028 as a 2029 model year. This leaves its rivals, the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra, to gain ground with new-gen goodies.
