I used to have a thing for cleaver knives, I had my eye on the Kershaw Launch 14 since it came out and once I got promoted from apprentice to technician, it was one of the first 'nice' things I bought with my raise, after a nice mattress and some quality cookware.
I love it sentimentally but I find myself carrying my Vosteeds and cheaper Kershaws way more often.

I had just graduated Jr High School. so guessing around 1976. Sorry I don’t remember the exact year. Before that I had the usual cheapy knives you got at the corner store. This was big deal money for me and in all truth .. was a trooper of a knife. Had it and used it for years and never babied it. It also had a version of a liner lock which was so different than almost all the knives you could get at the time.

My first Sebenza was a CGG graphic small 21 I bought in 2014 for $425. I thought if I was going to spend $375 for a plain Jane, $50 more for a cool graphic and polished blade was worth it. I still have it today and ended up purchasing a PJ small 21 shortly afterwards anyways because I thought the CGG was “too nice to use”.
I bought a really nice kitchen knife when I was working as a Sushi chef, but my first pocket knife over $200 was a Spyderco Smock. Followed several months later by several autos well over $200.
Mine was a large sebenza. Honestly, I really disliked it, but it did “break the wall” and allow me to become okay with buying pricier knives in the future, so I guess it did that for me.
A Buck 110 for $35 back in like 1978. Saved my allowance for months, and I’m surprised my dad let my by it. I wish I still had it, lost somewhere in the many moves.
