That there is a dirk originating in Scotland around the 16th century, yours is likely a cheap yet still practical Pakistani version with cheap steel sometimes mild steel and nickel so it’s soft and rust prone nut with shiny bits still almost exactly like your blade has. I like it tho n would use it for chopping.

It’s rusting because it’s not made from knife steel. It’s a very large and rusty paperweight. Sorry for your loss, but this is the wrong keepsake.
