It was made by Kaufman and Sons (1856 to 1995), same company that made the famous black cat pocket knife. Not sure about the date, sometime mid-20th century I’d guess. Looks like a carbon steel blade, so I’d consider oiling it and not storing in the sheath to avoid rust. German and English made bowies were actually really common in the US all through the 19th century.
