Long story short I bought a new BM Osborne 940 exclusive burnt copper about a year ago. Knife was amazing. Action was impeccable. About 4-5 months ago I bought a set of aftermarket Carbon Fiber scales from Dragonfly. Received a week or so later. Put the knife back together with the new scales and no matter what I've tried since ,I can't get the action like it was. Was either too tight or there was blade play/wobble. And always use loctite. Reapplied the stock aluminum burnt scales this am and immediately it was perfect again opening and closing. How is this even possible as they aren't Micarta and look identical on the inside of the stock scales. So $120 bucks later and early into my knife collection addiction I've realized knives are made like they are from the factory or at least this Osborne is; to work properly with it in factory condition. Stoked to have this great piece of cutlery back again. Looks better anyhow.

This has generally been my experience with aftermarket benchmade scales as well, even with the “big” names like Flytanium. Something about the precision/tolerances is just never right. When I wanted my “ultimate” 533, I ended up just shelling out the extra nearly $300 for the benchmade Ti scales instead. Haven’t regretted it.
