Modular Ratchet Pen

Right to left:

– 711L Micro Ratchet

– Cut down cheap hex extender

– Dakoyu Pen Bit – cut down

– Plastic straw cut and melted to fit

Overall combined length is 3.75”. This has been an evolution over the last few months, refining the sizes of the components and finding a cap solution. I was actually working on a homemade version of a bit pen when Dakoyu came out with their own. I’m still not happy with the plastic cap and would prefer a screw on cap. The Pen Bit is surprisingly hard so my cheap tap and thread kit won’t cut it. I’ll get that figured out someday when I have time.

Notes:

– Pen Bit is normally 1.5” but I’ve cut about 0.25” off so it’s even shorter.

– For the extender I cut the collar to length and found out it was hollow. I then cut the shank to length, threw some epoxy in the collar hole, and hammered the shorten shank into the hole.

– The cap is just a hard plastic straw I cut, heated, and then used my fingers and Pen Bit to mold to shape.
