So I got the anniversary edition X1 from dakoyu with the wire stripper blades. first impression is less than stellar. there were some great ideas behind this tool, and some features are really nice. but over all I expected a better tool for 120 beans.

the magnacut blade with ball bearing mount is really nice. it opens super smooth, and maybe a bit too easily. easy enough that I will remove the thumb stud so it doesnt open accidentally

the pocket clip with dedicated release button is nice. clips easier than my wave, and doesnt move once clipped.

I have not used the wire strippers yet, but they do not appear to be well aligned. will update when I can try them.

and this is where the complaints start. the overall fit and finish of this tool sucks. the texture on the handle scales looks more like an artifact of manufacturing than an intentional texture. there is a pin and pocket in the handles to stop the handles from flexing when folded, and it absolutely needs this because it flexes a ton without it. the pliers feel very flimsy, which is disappointing considering that is one of the reasons I bought the tool. the file is very poorly made, with burs just folded down instead of removed, and a plating that cracked and flaked removing a burr from an aluminum ladder step.

overall, I think there are some great ideas, just poorly executed. it will make for a decent mod base for sure, but its too expensive for what it is

included a couple comparison pics with my wave for reference

At $120 it may be a better bet to just get the wave alpha from leatherman.

I see you had a wave already – any reason to go this route over the alpha?
