My DIY sheaths are getting better. I'm finding them, aesthetically, nearly as good as the ones I've purchased from custom kydex makers, while being functionally superior. The retention on this one is superb; in fact, I had to loosen it up from it's initial state. Zero wiggle or rattle.
This one replaces one from RK Custom Kydex, which I ruined trying to improve (but learned in the process). But the RK sheath came to me with horrible retention; I could easily shake it right out.
The key is spending a fair amount of time with the heat gun hand forming it for a better fit. This is time consuming, and I think the reason why mine have better retention than ones I've puchased from RK Custom Kydex as well as Cleveland Kydex.
In the process, I realized I had to grind down the sharp 90° edge on the front end of this handle, because it would dig right into the kydex and prevent insertion.
Shout out to Cold Steel Knives for their garbage sheaths. 😆
