So, my new Convoy Z1 initially struck me as a dark gray when I opened the box. Comparing with my older Z1, I noticed the finish is different. While it doesn’t show up well in photos, I thought I would post a quick comparison and while it’s not a big difference, I like the subtle matte better.

I hope Convoy leans into the matte finish in more of their lights moving forward.

The Apache 1800 case pictured is molded to a couple of my thrower lights (pictured last). Not totally happy with how the spray-on rubberized sealant worked – in order to get fully coverage I had to apply it far too thick, so it doesn’t really flex as advertised. But I kind of like the “flashlight in dirty snow” look.

  1. Anodizing will always cause uncontrollable color differences due to batch, even if the head, body and tail form same light. Some brands such as Amutorch seem to be like this.
