My LM arrived today. Been doing that new tool dorky thing where you use it at every opportunity even though you have the right/specific tool for the job to hand anyway.

I’ve been an SAK guy since the 80’s. I’ve had leatherman and other pliers tools but they have never really been EDC’s for me. The key features that I live about SAK’s highlight what LM tools have lacked.

1 – SAK scissors are awesome 🤩. They are probably my most used item on a multi tool including important tasks (in the outdoors hiking and climbing) like trimming toenails so boots don’t hurt. Early LM scissors were more than a bit rubbish but I had a wingman for a while till it was stolen and the scissors on that were good enough. I’m going to put a set of wingman scissors on my Signal

2 – LM’s combined can/bottle opener was rubbish for opening bottles. It just made holes in the top. Pah ☹️

The bottle opener on my Signal is completely and utterly awesome!!!!!!! It really is a joy to use.

The can opener can just be that

3 – corkscrew 🤨🧐
This was actually the defining decision back in the day – SAK had a corkscrew and facilitated drinking wine, LM didn’t. No brainer there.
But I’m a crazy turn of events the world has changed. Corks are rarely a thing anymore. The corkscrew is verging on obsolete 🤯
What is this crazy world we live in 🙈

So I think there is a chance I’m going to move to a different default tool, the signal could make it.

There have to be some mods. Scissors are very important. I’m going to put a set of wingman scissors to replace the saw (I never use saws on multi tools ever)

The sharpener and firefighter/whistle are useless too me. I have options on the way to add functions that could be useful to me.

September October this year are interesting months for me. I have some outdoor adventure mountain bike trips coming up plus some international travel. It will be an excellent test.

Until the scissors arrive I’ll double up. I have a SAK Classic SD that might be good enough to partner with the Signal and mean I will leave the Climber behind.

Right. Where’s that bottle opener……..
