While Li-Ion with metal casing (18650 etc) is much much much more safer than those RC Li-Po pouch cells that explode the moment you take your eyes away from them, it is a good practice to use Li-Po bags for extra safety/fail safe measure.
You can never be too safe. Being extra careful/safe is always a great idea.
