So I have been watching the saga of the toler union for some time now. All the usual suspects blew it up on YouTube back a while so I was interested in seeing if it was worth having, however in the 4 years since the indie campaign he’s managed to be about 3 or so years behind in delivering so I didn’t expect to ever get one. However a couple popped up on the bay, I missed the first on bids, it was $27 an hour before the end of bidding but ended at $150 so I wasn’t going that far. This one without the box was $95 +ship buy it now, so I did.

So far I’m…. Unimpressed. Here’s the pro con list

Pro, I didn’t pay $125 and wait 4 years

Con
It’s hinky and imprecise. One of the supposed draws is being able to get both ends of a nut and bolt and I don’t see that ever working.

The pliers are tiny, and they do not lock into place and the handles can rotate while you are using them

the self adjusting end is, well to be charitable it’s exactly like the bargain bin tools that look like it. It grabs on one point and one flat and there are no teeth in either side so slipping happens and if there’s a rounded corner it just will not grab.

The 1/4″ extension flippity flops around when you are reefing on the wrench as well, making it hard to manage all of the slipping and not grabbing.

The saws aren’t kerf’d enough to not have spine bind.

The file is smaller than a wingman file.

Getting the pliers back to “unioned” will make you feel like you are blind or on your first date (it’s not going in.)

Oh and while reconnecting it’s fun to have the bits just fall out. It has ball detents for the bits but they aren’t strong enough.

The knife is pretty thick and chonky, but it barely locks.

I have no idea how you could sharpen it to the heel given the frame which sticks out a 1/4″ past the blade.

It’s as big as an OHT (bigger than a surge and just not very capable)

I’ll probably put this back on the bay in a bit, it’s less sorted out than the knockoff Kershaw a100 that I have.

I’m going to stick to a charge and a crunch, two great tools that can stand alone or together.
