So . . . I got tired of waiting and, because today was a slow day at work, I took a bench grinder to my Leatherman Rev, and made a side cutter for zip ties.
It might not look great, but it works just fine.

I have no idea why people are attacking you over this. Modifying a tool to better suit your needs makes perfect sense. Just because those aren’t *my* needs has nothing to do with it.
Nice work.

People wouldn’t be hassling you if you’d made it pretty. Impatience + Benchgrinder rarely make pretty.
Grrr I’m mad at you cause I’m a mongoloid who is bent on tradition and not innovation… me go to my cave cave and eat my own poop poop

Sick! I wish more multi tools had an option for side cutters or snips. I might just have to do this too!

My only criticism is if you didn’t use some kind of coolant while grinding.(I’ve been told it ruins the temper on hardened steel, making it softer and more susceptible to wear)
But that’s assuming you didn’t use coolant and assuming you ground it down.
Otherwise, nice mod!

Great job man!

Question… What’s the limiting factor on close right now? Is it the original side cutters at the base that are holding it up? If it is you could grind those down to make more room if you’d like to keep grinding the tips a little farther to finish off the last of the serration, and make your new cutters at the end work better.

Edit: Not a dis. Tim Leatherman’s first prototypes were not much to look at.
