So I’m assuming this protruding fixture is threaded, how would I best fix it so it is flush against the handle? Don’t have another pair of pliers until I get home 2 days from now.
Without the right bit or pliers, try to find something pronged like a spare car fuse, trimming scissors, or nail clippers. Good luck MacGyvering!

If your thumb wont work try something with more friction, if it’s a propriatary bolt you could try to melt a bic pen housing (remove cap, ink cardridge and any other parts from the acrylic part) or gluegun stick stuck to it or in the shape of the head. In any case, good luck!
Edit:
It seems to be a sort of security bit ( I got the bit but never encountered the screws), you could try to modify a cheap flathead screwdriver, file down the inside till you got 2 prongs that fit 2 oppoite of the 4 holes)

try some tweezers so that you can grb the srew aslong as it can turn. you should be able to get it flush again

Locking pliers might work.
