Help me branch out from my ZL…

I had this modded several years ago by someone here that I can't recall the name… you all might know. They were "famous" for mods. The SC64cLE with a 519a 4000k. Not long after, ZL released the SC65c with I believe the 519?

I've gone through a few that just get tossed or given away and I keep coming back to this one.
The size, CRI, tint, beam pattern, efficiency…… it's hard to beat.

It's been so good that I've been out of the game for a while.

Any suggestions for similar lights to check out? Cost isn't an issue; and it might take a lot to kick this out of it's place in my pocket.

  1. Z1 Artemis is similar in size and has more emitter options to choose from.

KR3 is similar in size with even more emitter options and has a tail switch.

Both run Anduril which is loved or hated (I personally love it)

I’m not an expert, but from what I understand a McBob SC64 is more-or-less the grail Zebralight.

For something similar but different, check out the Fireflies Z1 Artemis and Noctigon KR1AA.

  3. You may enjoy a modded Armytek to go along with your mcbob ZL

You should hop onto the Anduril train! I’ve heard ZL UI is similarly controversial (but I don’t have one myself), so… yeah. Let me just say that Anduril is not nearly as complicated as the haters say.

You’ll never go wrong with Fireflies. The Artemis is popular, and they have really great 21700 options as well: EO4 and X4(Q) are great if you don’t mind a little—a lot, I guess—more weight.

  5. You chose well. There is still not much competition for a modded sc64. The SC65c will have a throwier beam and the Fireflies Z1 will match it in size with a floody beam great for up close general use. The Zebra still wins in build quality. I own both the SC65c and Z1. They pair well due to the drastically different beam profiles.

If you like the look of the 519A at 4000K, take a look at something like the [Emisar D3AA](https://intl-outdoor.com/product/emisar-d3aa-14500-edc-led-flashlight-2/) using the same Nichia 519A emitter you like, or the NTG35 emitter at 4200K. The size/ergonomics will be much smaller, the efficiency and performance as good if not better, the cell choices a little more flexible. And you can try other emitters and different CCTs if you feel you may want something much more different in beam profile.

That’s the “issue” with Zebras … I’m stuck with my H600c and SC600w Plus HI and probably will be until the Mk Vs are released.

I’ve gotten other lights since but they don’t see nearly as much use.
