Which flashlight is this, and what’s the deal with the battery stabilizer thingie?

I recently bought a bunch of flashlights as a package deal and got this one as part of it. The seller thought it was from Acebeam but I haven't been able to find the model and it has no markings.

I have tried it with nimh AAA and it works and has three modes. However the button seems to have some contact issues as it is not always turning on… or off when clicked. Am I using the wrong battery?

So, here it becomes wielder to me:

It takes an AA battery, which fits in the stabilizer brass thing, but I am not sure if it also takes a cr123, as it seems to fit in there without the brass thing. It seems odd to me that a light would work with both battery types and I don't want to brick it by experimenting…
