Have a newer MSI, new AWT scales, skiffs etc. However, it feel like the lock only engages about 1/8 of the blade tang. No issues with it staying put, just feel like it should maybe engage further? Thoughts?

Nope, it’s fine.
That extra travel just means you’ll have a tight lockup for longer as the blade tang wears down
You’d have to show pics of the lock engaged, but your description is very normal for any type of crossbar/axis/ram lock. As it wears over the years it has to have somewhere to go or you’ll just end up with play.
