Most of you don’t know me, I’m Eddy, and I own Orbital Knives and I have designed for other brands as well. I’ve been designing knives for a while, and recently I started actually making them because I do think it’ll make me a better designer… but I’m curious what you all think. Designing can feel unlimited, like anything works on paper or on software, but making a knife has a way of checking those ideas real quick, and it’s made me learn things that I normally would have overlooked during a design process. That said, there are plenty of great designers out there who don’t make knives at all. So I’m wondering, does learning to make knives actually make you a better designer, or is it just a different skill set entirely? Would love to hear where you all stand on that.
Thank you in advance!
