I’ve always loved the aesthetics of this knife and most Kunwu knives, but this one especially speaks to me. Anytime I order somethin over $200 I have to really think about it. I gave myself a $500 budget as a graduation present but I’m having a hard time finding something I like more than this. What knives would you guys recommend over the compadre. I generally like a medium sized knife. 3” blade is usually preferable but I’m fine up to 4”

I think there’s too many knives and personal preference in that price range to make a recommendation.  If you like that knife I can definitely tell you Kunwu is worth the money

Honestly you cannot go wrong, you could size up to the padre but if you like like the size of the compadre than I think that’s your knife. Ppl on here hype it up and it really deserves it. One of my favorite knives ever

It’s a phenomenal option. Sometimes you just have to go with your eyes are drawn too. You might be able to find a higher end knife but you won’t like it nearly as much as the Kunwu Compadre.

The full size Padre? Definitely the best bet for 300 bucks. For 500 you can get a US made knife.

I have the regular Padre and love it. I also just bought the Poon Padre from WMK, which has a similar profile but has the harpoon tip on top of the blade. It’s one of Kunwu’s newer models, so not all the stores have them in stock yet. I also really like the Verta lock Excalibur. The verta lock feels awesome. I wonder if Kunwu is working on a Verta lock Padre….

If you want to spend on the higher end of your budget, maybe a CRK Umnumzaan or a Hinderer XM-18 or Eklipse. Definitely check out r/Knife_Swap. There are a lot of cool guys there who collect knives, so chances are you can find a knife you want that is essentially in new condition for cheaper than retail.

Dang.. that is pretty sweet. Following this sub has certainly not been my smartest financial decision.

Kershaw bel air. Too fantastic for words

  8. The_Lazy_Samurai

Quiet Carry Waypoint Large. The fit and finish is incredible.

Look at bench made freak. And Spartan Hersey folder

Same knife but get it with the crossbar lock

Kunwu is clearly at the top of the heap for made overseas knives currently and Sergio is the man. At the $500 mark you can get a lot though, some of which is made in the USA. Or you could say fuck it and get almost two Kunwu knives for $500 is you want to exceed budget by a bit.

I strongly recommend you look at the entire zero tolerance line only because they do $40 blade replacements. I’ve done it on my 0562 and my ‘0393 as well as multiple others. They do blade replacements for $40. That means you can buy a $400 knife and use it without worry for breaking it. Whereas you buy a kunwoo or a We or any other kind of Chinese brand or Italian brand or whatever you messed that blade up enough, sharpening it the wrong way. Ship it, break it whatever you’re f*****… With ZT you can pay $40 and get a full blade replacement. No questions asked

There’s several several others to get haha. Protech Malibu

Why are you asking us? You’ve made it clear in your post this is the one for you. It’s an outstanding choice while also preserving some of your budget. Go for it man, the Compadre is a great knife.

I have dozens and dozens of knives I bought because other people talked about how good they were. I get bored, so I buy knives whether I really want them or not. Are they good knives? Some. But none of them are special as the ones that *really* caught my eye and wouldn’t let go.

And as it turns out a lot of folks who are quick to make specific recommendations have no idea what they’re actually talking about or are recommending them because they’re parroting others.

If you want a compadre you can’t go wrong. It’s fantastic. Go for what speaks to you.

Edit: I will add that Kunwu is about the only Chinese company where I actually trust their heat treat. And their DLC is top notch. The only other DLC I like as much is from Microtech.

I like the small sebenza 31 tanto for edc. That said, the build quality and fit and finish of kunwu knives is unmatched. I have 3 padres (2 frame lock, one axis lock). I desperately need a compadre because I feel like it might be one of the best knives in that size range. You will absolutely not be disappointed by this knife. Go for it!

I have a stonewashed Compadre and love it. It is my favorite blade shape of all of my knives. Just looks and feels great in the hand.

I also have a Pulsar from Kunwu with their DLC finish and it is great as well.

I think you would be happy with the purchase.

For $500 I would probably buy an mp5 clone.

I wasn’t sold on the Vanax for these folders but absolutely loved the design. I picked up a Stiffy D in V4E and absolutely love it. I’ve carried it everyday at work since I picked it up. It’s easily my most frequently carried knife in a very large collection. I almost forgot it’s there until I need to use it.

  19. DrankTooMuchMead

I came here to make fun of the price for being ludicrously expensive, but I think those designs are ludicrously ugly.

Its like living in San Francisco. Pay way more for a shittier experience.

Sorry, that’s just my opinion, man.
