Damascus steel

Hello all! I have a little Damascus hunting knife that has some scratches and polishing marks in the pattern.

I’m just wondering if I could polish it all out and make the Damascus pattern more noticeable again? I have seen people use coffee to stain the Damascus and I’m wondering if that would work?
