Hey,
ive recently bought the vosteed porcupine in brown micarta and noticed a weird white something on it. what causes this and can i do something to put it back to its original color?
if the handle gets wet it will become brown and when dried itll be like this again.
The other side is its regular color
would love to know!

the white is part of the micarta. you can oil them if you want it to darken up.
I use wicked wax on mine. I’ve used mineral oil, beeswax and Balistol. The wicked seems to work the best. Not greasy, like oil and doesn’t make it as dark as Balistol and last a lot longer than beeswax
Micarta is fabric layered with resin to make a composite. The resin will slowly wear and expose the fabric. More use will impart the oils from your hand onto it and darken it.
You can rub it with a light coat of mineral oil and it will darken. It will also darken with the oil from your hands. The white stuff is the epoxy and fabric roughing up. When it smooths out it darkens.
I use Ballisol on all my micarta handles. Works well

They’ll darken up the more you use it. These denim micarta scales were light blue when i got them now they’re almost black
I actually polished a set of micarta scales with sandpaper and polishing compound and they turned out pretty great. You def lose the grippy aspect but it was fun

These are the fibers from the fabric the micarta is made of, it’s perfectly normal. If you want to darken your scales you can treat them with wax.
