For the past couple years I've been perfecting using wood PLA and making it look realistic. By far my favorite filament is Heartwood PLA by Capricorn since it has a high content of actual Heartwood. I sand and then use multiple shades of gel stain to get that perfect wood look.

Nope.
Damn, that’s really impressive. My reservation with 3D printed scales, and PLA specifically, is its weakness to heat. Especially living in TX, where we get plenty of days over 110 degrees. Can’t argue with the aesthetic, though – beautiful work.
