I Presented a friend, who understands variability in quality but is not familiar with small batch knives, one genuine (Prince Protean) and one clone (Lemifshe Mini FSD) of knives popular on KnifeClub. I disclosed the origin (US and China) and a general price range (<$100 Mini FSD, >$600 Protean).
His assessment was as follows:
The fit and finish on both were high quality and he thought the lockbar on the Prince was well made
The steel was better on the Prince but both had a nice edge
The deployment and ‘snap’ into lock position was better on the Prince
The push button lock fit could have been tighter on the Lemifshe
The Lemifshe was a ‘good value’, the Prince was ‘too spendy’
Overall, his assessment was the Prince was genuine for the superior deployment and finish, but thought the price was high.
I realize this assessment could be improved with a gen and clone of the same model, but this is what I have.
