This Gerber multiplier was a gift from my father, given to me just a few months before he passed away. He carried it everywhere. Somehow, he managed to keep the black finish looking remarkably fresh, even though the internal tools are heavily scratched from years of hard use.
In his final months, after a stroke led to a leg amputation and left him unable to move, he would spend hours cleaning and maintaining this tool as a way to pass the time. I like to think there’s a story hidden in this piece of steel that I’ll never fully know.
I keep it tucked away safely now. While my Leatherman Wave+ is my daily driver, this Gerber is my most prized possession because of the personal history it carries. One day, I hope to pass both of these down to my daughter, just as my father did for me.
