I just saw this and thought I should share. No idea whether they are actually more effective than standard extinguishers.

  1. EnergyLantern

One of the problems is that there are a lot of gasses released from these batteries and therein lies the problem.

Lithum cells provide their own fuel for a fire. You kind of can not extinguish a lithium cell thats properly on fire.

And as EnergyLantern already said, even IF you managed to put out the fire before the cell would have put itself out (the intense part of the fire only lasts seconds), you would have to deal with the gasses.

    So you have:
A: A fire you can barely if ever put out in a reasonable amount of time.
B: A fire that will have caused most damage before you even realize its happening, let along got to it.
C: Gasses that will cause far more damage to you then you realize in the moment.

I will not tell you how to handle lithium fires, but these things may give you the false sense of security.

I also want to add that the odds of such fires are incredibly low.
