My new Kansept Prickle arrived today. 🥳 It was scheduled for Monday but I don't complain about an early delivery.
I was looking for a knife that could replace my Civivi Clavi (that sadly got lost outdoors) for some time now. I loved that knife (designed by Ostap Hel) so much, but since it's discontinued a replacement was hard to find. A simple, elegant frontflipper only, with a linerlock and preferably Micarta scales.
The Sencut Jubil (top) comes close but I especially missed the jimping on the blade and I'm not the biggest fan of the looks of the handle. It feels great in hand and it is efficient but I liked the Clavi better, with its more regular handle.
When I first saw the Kansept Prickle (design by Max Tkachuk from Ukraine) in brown Micarta it was love at first side. So I ordered it at the winter sale on Knifestock and I think I did the right thing.
Action is great, I dig the look and feel. The blade is surprisingly long. I don't own a lot of knives with more cutting edge. (I added a picture with the Civivi Vision FG, my Spyderco Para 3 LW Spy27 and an Opinel No. 8 for comparison.) Blade steel is 154CM, a first for me, but I heard good things about it. I could live without the big nail nick that isn't really useful, but I don't mind it. Otherwise the Prickle is pretty close to my perfect knife. With a Wharncliffe blade (like the Civivi Clavi or the Sencut Jubil) it would be absolutely perfect.
If you compare the Prickle to a Higinokami you can clearly see the design inspiration Max took from the japanese knife. And I like that a lot. (There are even versions in brass or bronze, but I read that these are pretty heavy compared to the ones in G10 or Micarta.)
I'm looking forward to using the knife every day. I'm hopeful that I've found my new EDC knife. Have a nice weekend y'all and enjoy your knives.
