Hi everyone,

I recently picked up an Outask TD1 and I’ve noticed some circular scuffing/pressure marks on the telescopic aluminum poles after only a few uses.

I reached out to Outask customer service, and they replied saying that this is not a manufacturing defect but rather "normal cosmetic wear" due to friction between the aluminum segments. They also stated it's not covered under warranty.

I’m a bit disappointed because the light is marketed as a premium piece of gear. For those of you who own an Outask:

  1. Are you seeing similar marks on your units?
  2. Do you think this is acceptable for a light at this price point?
  3. Has anyone found a way to prevent this (e.g., lubrication or cleaning)?

I love the design and performance, but these marks make the build quality feel a bit questionable. Would love to hear your thoughts or if I should push back on their support team. 😅

  1. I don’t see any scuffing on the poles in your pictures. If there is scuffing, I think that’s normal, acceptable, and nothing to worry about. I think their response is totally reasonable.

I do see one circular scuff *around* the poles on the flat plastic/aluminum top cap thing. That’s more wear than I’d expect but it’s not something that would bother me or something I’d contact customer service about.

Bottom line is it seems fine to me. If you’re not happy with it, it’s perfectly reasonable for you to return it and buy something else.

I also do not see any scuffs on the poles.
But if you do, try some light application of lube.

    Silicone oil usually works fine.
