    Do they still work?
    Also those colors look great.

Super cool. Had the purple one with led conversion when I was a kid. It’s what got me started in the hobby.

People hate on Maglite but there’s something so satisfying with the twist on Minimags

If you just found this sub, you should walk away now. Your wallet will thank you. Nice collection btw! OG flashaholic.

Excellent collection. I agree that the AA & AAA Mini Mags are excellent. Especially the later LED ones or with bulb upgrades. Simplicity done right but outclassed now.

  6. Old school cool!

For a great replacement, think about a Convoy T6. A little shorter, can still use a AA in a pinch, and WAY more powerful (if needed) than the minimags.

I like mine with an sft40 6500k emitter and a K10 battery and have them in almost every color they offer.

    I still have a custom
“KyFishGuy micromag” that is a favorite!

I had the Inova, it seems so high tech at the time 😂

I just got out my old mini mag after being in a drawer for a good 20 years. Fired right up with a new battery.

I thought to myself, my god, this is comparatively awful to what we have now.

I really liked mine when l did a cheap LED kit in it years ago. I wish l still had it.

Hey, I only got half of those colors. Man, that takes me back.

I have a minimag for the nostalgia of that tiny little bulb and because I was given it. It’s honestly kinda great for what it did

Wow you really liked those types. I guess it was all about collecting colours. Btw no battery inside right? Hate to have them leak if it’s the alkaline ones.

does the light on the bottom have a fresnal style lens?

Those are amazing. Maglite’s LED version of the mini-mag is still pretty good.

I remember that when I was a kid one of my relatives had one of these with pink copper colored anodization for their emergency kit. Absolutely amazing looking and I absolutely wanted one of those for the longest time; colored anodization is always appealing. Eventually got one of my own and then converted it to L.E.D.; it was quite bright for the era, but it’s pretty low output and very blue in comparison to modern lights.

I will say one thing about Maglites; while I cannot speak about their lights made in the last 5-7 years I can absolutely say that they probably have some of the most durable anodization amongst flashlights.

Awesome collection. Some of the best times in my life had on in my hand or my backpack. Swap the batteries for some energizer lithium.

I had the same pack of mini mag leds! Brings me back man, thanks for sharing

    Where’d you get the holsters?

  20. planetearthofficial

My god the green one is so sexy!!!!!

When I bought my first one of these I thought they couldn’t get any better.

We certainly have better flashlights today, but the Mini Maglites is arguably the single greatest milestone in flashlight design. They were the first widely available pocket sized light that was bright and reliable. Nearly everyone that had use for a light had one back in 1990. They spawned a whole aftermarket of holsters, brackets, rechargeable battery upgrades, tail cap switches, pocket clips, headlamp adapters, and so forth. People adapted them as bicycle headlights and weapon lights. They were everywhere. Every tradesman, truck driver, roadie, cop, and firefighter had one. People mixed and matched parts to create custom color combinations. It was a whole thing, and it just vanished when Mag was slow to adapt to LED technology.

I got the brass mag 2-AA. Thing is heavy.

When I was in the Navy it was required that we carried one of these little things. We used to get the cool colors and trade pieces with each other so we all had Frankenstein lights but each one was different. I used to think they were so bright but I think they topped out at 10-15 lumens.

The Inova X5 was my best light at that generation… Fond memories.

I hope I can find my modified maglites this month.
