I did a "review" of a Emerson commander and said at the end that I liked it enough to buy another Emerson. I bought the cqc-7. And this is my half-assed review/impressions of the the cqc7.
I chose the cqc-7 because I like tantos and I don't own any chisel ground knives. Also when I think "Emerson knives" I think of the commander and cqc-7 so they were must buys in this journey.
Cutting: To my surprise the chisel cuts like any other knife. So nothing special there.
Comfort: I have weird hands where nothing really uncomfortable so to me the handle is great no matter how I hold it.
Steel: 154 cm treated for toughness. Stayed sharp all week and only issue I had was a random nic in the blade that just appeared.
Ease of sharpening: Yesterday I got to work and needed to cut open a box so I pulled my knife out. After cutting the box I went to wipe my knife and noticed a decent nic in the blade. I pulled out my work sharp edc sharpener and in 5-10 minutes of carefully work on the fine stone, I got the nic out. And then stropped it with my knafs strop. It was right back to shaving sharp no problem.
This review isn't too long due to the knife not being much different from the commander. Same steel, same g10 which I love, same construction etc.
All in all, I really like it. Almost more then the commander. Only problems I have is that the grind is on the wrong side. Hopefully they do a run of v grind ones. I plan on buying more Emerson's. I have started saving for an elvia.
