What is the sole purpose of the Reverse Tanto Blade?

Nothing fancy, but this was a gift from my father (RIP 😭), due to me being such an S&W and Karambit fan. What is the sole purpose of a reverse tanto? Especially when compared to the Americanized/Western Tanto, what advantages/disadvantages does a Reverse Tanto have? Also, is there any beneficial reason why a Reverse Tanto blade would be used for a Karambit?
