Got a nice red KC1 with my last order from Hank and decided to ask for a W1 in there to see if it could even remotely be used as a thrower. Have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by how well it does considering the size and AAA battery. It's got a TIR which is to be expected at this size. Nice hotspot from the W1, certainly would say the beam is more throwy than floody. Only £10 or so, a steal for such a well made little light

I compared it to a few other AAA lights in my collection. The fence in the photos is over 100ft away and I wanted to see how well they throw and also overall illumination from the spill. It's worth mentioning that these lights aren't really designed for this purpose and are more likely to be used up close, but it's hard to put that to the test and they are all quire capable of locating something under a couch.

The blue is the Lumintop EDC01 is around the same price point and only a few % bigger, they almost look like they came from the same factory. It has a beaded TIR which makes it less throwy, and also seems to have lower output and less able to light up something at a distance. Cost around £10, same as the KC1.

The silver light is a crappy Maeerxu that I got to try and anodize the titanium, it was also around £10, has a TIR like the KC1, but is around 30% bigger and twice as heavy. Nowhere near as bright or throwy as the KC1.

Lastly my copper Reylight pineapple mini mk2. The only other AAA light but costs more than the other 3 combined so expected more from it. It's around 50% bigger than the KC1 so manages to house a proper reflector. Has a 519a 4000k and I've carried it around a few times, but not a fan of the tailswitch and how mushy it is. Good amount of throw with a defined hotspot up close, less visible at a distance, a little more floody than throwy overall. Probably a better edc light but for the price, the KC1 is much more impressive.

So if you're looking for a very cheap twisty AAA 'thrower' look no further, Hank has you covered.
