This is a replica of the knife the Rough Riders used in the Spanish-American war. How would they have carried this sheath? Would it go on the inside of the belt and the frog would go through a hole in the leather? That seems the only logical way to me.

    Workman’s pants and others used to have an extra button or eyelet to fit a knife sheath to, Moras for example still have this feature.

  2. The stud is a “[Sam Browne](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Browne) button stud.”

    It’s simple – you slide the sheath behind the belt and it either rides down to the stud, and stops, or the belt has a manner of a pierced hole-slot for it. The stud allows endless angles of positioning as well as easy removal at any time. The stud also lets the sheath ride up slightly as you sit, while still being inside the belt; when standing, push it back down into place.

    An alternative method of carry uses a slide that rides the belt and the stud fits the slide as shown in photo below.
