Is this a bad way to store my kitchen knives? I'm hoping to start getting into better knives for my kitchen, and I'd like to try to learn how to take better care of them…

I have kind of a small kitchen, but if this sort of thing isn't great for knives, what's the best way to store them?

What in the black magic fuckery tell me how exactly theyre still there

  2. I hope it’s a good way to store them, planning on adding magnetic holders like this for my knives soon!

Tip down!! Edit: just a preference! There is no definition direction.

  4. I think it’s a bad idea and they should have proper storage where the blade is not exposed.

lots of professional kitchens use knife strips. Dragging the blade on a wood block dulls it as it’s retrieved. A knife strip, thou, if not placed well can be bumped into, or grabbed by hands that shouldn’t.

I use Messermeister blade edge protectors. And the kitchen knives are just stored randomly placed in a kitchen drawer. The protector keeps the kitchen knife edge from getting damaged.

Every kitchen i’ve worked in in the last decade has had magnetic knife strips. Most of those were bare metal strips, not hidden in wood like this, which is actually better for your knives as long as the magnets are strong enough through the wood to actually hold them.

For my apartment, I ended up buying a bamboo, magnetic knife holder. Basically a free-standing, 2 sided knife strip hidden in bamboo like this, but with a nice heavy base so I didn’t have to attach it to the wall (my lease forbade it).

Are there “better” options than magnetic knife strips? Probably, but they’re all stupider/more expensive/more bespoke.

This is 100× better than keeping them in a drawer.

I can’t see these and not think of Sonny Chiba just throwing his knives at the magnet without looking in Kill Bill.

Professional chef here. This is the way. Magnet bars are great.

I would have them positioned so you can naturally grab the handle.

Nothing wrong with those for storage.

Make sure they are thoroughly dry.
