In order to get this pattern they spot weld a bunch of metal scraps before going through the forge process (usually in Pakistan). That metal is anything they find. A car bumper, a pan, a bucket of shoe eyelets. It may contain lead. Not all Damascus steel has lead, but it happens. Another tell is the spine design. Pakistani knives love to mimic this French Laguiole knife spine signature.
