Just a PSA: 940 donor knife (probably) no longer needed for parts bin projects.
I was searching a long time for aftermarket liners for the 940, since I had an original spare blade lying around. I figured I could build an extra knife with the other parts I had, + a few ordered from the interwebs. However, the lack of liners always put a stop to those plans.
Well, not anymore, you can now get a pair of liners on AliExpress, and they work great, with basically the same finish as original Benchmade liners. Plus they have three holes for adjusting the omega spring tension.
I figured this might be relevant for you all, with all the custom 940 knife blades floating around out there – You basically don't need an original donor knife anymore.
Only problem I had was finding a stop pin that matched the liners properly, so I had a friend make me one on his lathe (I can share the technical drawing of the stop pin if anyone needs it).
My parts bin project consist of:
Original Benchmade parts:
- Blade + thumbs studs
- Omega springs
- Pocket clips + screws
- Washers
Aftermarket parts:
- AWT scales
- Liners
- Male / female titanium pivot
- Titanium body screws
- Black aluminum stand-off spacers
- Titanium cross-bar
- Custom stop pin
